By periodate oxidation of inulin, samples of polyaldehydinulin with varying degrees of oxidation have been obtained. The obtained polyaldehydinulines were used for the chemical modification of the low molecular weight drug adriamycin. It has been found that the quantitative content of adriamycin in the reaction products depends on the degree of oxidation of polyaldehydinulin. Using IR-spectroscopy, it has been proven that the chemical binding of adriamycin to polyaldehydinulin occurs through covalent azomethine bonds. When synthesized inulin-adriamycin was hydrolyzed in an acidic (pH 2.0) and slightly alkaline environment (pH 7.4), it has been proven that the drug has a prolonged release. The presence of adriamycin in the composition of polyaldehydinulin has been also substantiated by UV spectroscopy.
