Biomineralization, bioleaching and bio-recycle of gold and others heavy metals by metal-containing soils associated microorganisms is a complex biochemical process. Tandem whole-cell transformation provides a promising, alternative and cost-effective method for syntheses of gold particles and gold nanoparticles. This approach is particularly useful for structurally complex Au and heavy metals that are challenged to be mineralized through biotechnology. In this review, we have summarized several beneficial bacterial strains the β-proteobacteria Cupriavidus metallidurans and Delftia acidovarans which used as powerful biotechnological tools in mining and metallurgical industry. We have discussed their chemo-biotechnological properties. The review aims to assist scientists working in the fields of biotechnology, biotechnology, mineralogy and geology.
