The competitiveness of producers in any country increasingly determines its influence under certain conditions as a measure of overall market development. Ensuring competitiveness serves as the basis for the development strategy of a country or region. The article examines the essence of the concept of “competitiveness” at the regional level, as well as the views of many authors, as well as the approaches and methods used in its definition. A competitiveness rating has also been developed based on the socio-economic indicators of the regions, reflecting the economic sustainability of the Samarkand region. Based on this rating, factors and opportunities for the socio-economic development of regions are identified, conclusions and proposals are made for the development of the local economy.
